PhD Candidate in Urban Ecology & Urban Human-Animal Relationships

About me

Hello there! I'm currently a PhD candidate at the Technical University Munich (TUM) working at the Chair for Terrestrial Ecology. My work focusses on animal biodiversity in cities and the human inhabitants' attitudes towards these animals.

During my PhD, I've familiarized myself more with patterns behind animal biodiversity in cities, as well as how their architecture and social norms influence urban ecosystems. I believe that in order to understand nature in cities, it is necessary to realize that anything in cities is there by the humans living in them, and unappreciated areas and structures will at some moment be replaced with more appreciated ones. To understand urban nature then, an interdisciplinary approach is needed, with understanding of the social, spatial, structural, and natural aspects of the city.

Therefore I've been happy to be able to learn and work with the researchers from Studio Animal-Aided Design, BAYSICS, the "Igel in Bayern" team of the LBV, and researchers at the TUM that work on nature in urban environments. Conversations and the sharing of contemporary knowledge have been of great help to understand the the field, and to realize that much is possible on the field of urban greening and sustainable urban renewal, given the right knowledge and guidance. I hope to in the future be able to use the experience and knowledge gathered during my PhD to change our cities for the better.

Outside of my PhD, I enjoy reading books on terraces the city I'm in at any given time and getting to know more about the world and other people. General interests: plants, city planning, science fiction, fantasy novels, tabletop RPG's, video games, bar-jazz music, beers and wines of the world.
